Their complete name is Juan Roman Riquelme, he was born in 24 June of the year 1978, in San Fernando's humble neighborhood, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Their soccer career begins in the inferior divisions of the club Argentinos Juniors where he played for several years. In the year 1996 Riquelme is bought by the team Boca Juniors, debuting in first division that same year, the day November 11 in the game Boca Juniors - Union de Santa Fe.

It was Boca Juniors the team that had it as main character during these years, in those that achieved three times the Argentinean championship, to be champion of the Cup Libertadores of America in two opportunities, and champion of the Intercontinental Cup of soccer, in the year 2000.

It is in the year 2002, when for inconveniences with the leadership of the club Boca Juniors and family problems, Riquelme is passed over Barcelona FC.

He played in Barcelona FC a total of 30 parties, marking three goals, and in one year in the one that the Spanish club crossed strong crisis at technical level and of its leadership. In the year 2003 with the trainer's arrival Frank Rijkaard and the incorporation to the club of Ronaldinho, and for the excess of foreign players in the club, Barcelona FC decides to give Juan Roman Riquelme to the Spanish club Villarreal for two seasons.

He played two seasons in VIllarreal in the years 2003 at 2005 being main character and one of the best players in the team, being scorer in the year 2005. Since Juan Roman from arrival to the club, a great improvement was observed in its yield, and after VIllarreal concludes in the third position of the local league in the year 2005, Villarreal decides to buy from a definitive way to the player.

In the season 2005-2006 of the Champions League the club Villarreal is able to arrive until the semifinals being defeated by the team English Arsenal FC, arriving to instances of the glass that never before had achieved.

As for their performance in the National Selection of soccer of Argentina, Juan Román Riquelme has participated in 36 opportunities, debuting in the year 1997 (the day November 16) in the party that  concluded with a tie 1 at 1 between Argentina and Colombia.

It is also in the year 1997 the year in that Riquelme achieves the world championship of juvenile soccer of Malaysia.

Recently, the day September 13 of the year 2006, Riquelme has announced his renouncement to the Argentinean national selection of soccer, due to the complicated situation of his mother's health.
